Asian wedding timeline

There are usually a few of the steps which are followed when you get married:

• Agreement to marry the person
• Sometimes an engagement party is held - it is often called a Sinipaan and there will be lots of celebrations -- this is NOT an Islamic tradition. It is required that both parties will take trays which are brightly decorated with sweet foods etc.
• Mendhi party - this is often a girls only party and sometimes the other parties are invited, again lots of different trays, there will often be snack foods which will be given to the bride to be to eat
• Henna is applied a day or so onto the bride
• The nikaah ceremony is perfomed
• The wedding celebration begins
• The morning after you have a 'nastaa' and the brides family go and see the couple and bring lots of sweet dishes to eat for breakfast
• The bride will also cook breakfast for the grooms family
• The bride will go with her husband to stay at her parents house for a night or so (usually happens within the first week depending on location)
• THERE ARE THEN A LOT OF INVITATIONS TO VISIT FAMILY!
